US Central Command said it had struck missile and drone storage facilities and coastal radar positions on Friday.
It claimed that the strikes were in response to a drone attack on a cargo ship on Thursday, which prevented thousands of sailors stuck in the region from being evacuated as planned. Tehran said the cargo ship was attacked because it was using an unauthorised route to transit through the vital Gulf waterway.
The strikes were described as "a powerful response" to the drone attack a day earlier by US Central Command, or Centcom. It said in a statement, "The unwarranted aggression by Iranian forces against commercial shipping clearly violated the ceasefire."redmor.....
